According to the Travel Channel's Treasure Wiki Colorado Page, you can find agate, jasper, and petrified wood here. It says: " Agate , jasper, and petrified wood are found in the flats and the gullies.

Handy to bring along: 1. Rock bag 2. Shovel 3. Small pick-maul 4. Water

Helpful notes to newcomers: The Colorado National Monument is a well worth a stop on the way to the site."
Directions are also on the Travel Channel's Treasure Wiki Colorado Page. It seems that highway 141 goes directly south of the mesa, but with a 2000 foot altitude difference, so maybe the back road is the best way to go. Looking at google maps, the ones on the link could be misleading. Going west on 340 from Grand Junction, find your way to Monument Road which is soon after the Colorado River. After curving your way to the top of the monument, take a left onto D S road and go to Glade Park intersection and go south onto S 16 1/2 Rd. Take this to the Pinon mesa. You might want to check out Google's terrain map to see where 8600 feet is to look for the rocks and also see where the road gets near the Mesa. The road changes its name to M S Rd. by that time.
