There is a wide area where Petrified wood can be found in Texas and Louisiana especially around Lake Toledo Bend. For a little more info, visit the Travel Channel's Treasure Wiki Texas Page. The coveted treasure is petrified palm wood. Here is what the link used to say: "General description: The state fossil is petrified palm wood. It can be found with other wood of Oligocene age Catahoula Formation especially around Toledo Bend Lake. The wood is found on the lake shore and below the dam. I have collected near the lake in clear cut areas where logging is occurring. The log trucks and the heavy equipment uncovers the wood. How to get there: Toledo Bend Lake is on the border of Louisiana and Texas. Palm wood can be found on Texas side also. The dam site is on LA HWY191 in western Louisiana.
