"The garnets found at this site are dark maroon to black that average in size from 1/4 inch to 1/2 inch in size. The specimens are in cavities called vugs and occasionally an attractive
1 inch specimen can be found. The stones are generally not of gem quality but make very nice collector specimens. The garnets are a mixture of spessartine and almandine Garnet.
From member Gem-Rock Chasers: "First off, go prepared with a hooded jacket and/or raingear and hiking boots. Can use hammer and chisel to crack open rocks and bags for collecting. Found small garnets in rocks over hillside and picked up other specimens in roadside water drainage ruts. Was hailed and rained upon while there, so didn't get to stay long. Also slipped down in loose mudded ruts. (Pleasant day can be misleading as weather can change immediately.) There's a public restroom on site. But fun searching and finding!" | Directions can be found on the Travel Channel's Treasure Wiki Nevada Page. My GPS coordinates came from mindat.
