From "http://cashandtreasures.wikifoundry.com/page/Colorado", it says: "Better known in the Rockhounding Colorado book (by the Kappele's) as Troublesome Creek. General description: Search
the slopes and tops for blue and gray banded agate, red and brown
jasper, and pet wood. The pet wood fragments are up to a foot long and
are said to have a jet black interior that takes a beautiful polish. Grade this location: (A to F): C-mainly for the access. We need to go back to this fascinating site! Next time we want to see if we can find some pet. wood. Handy to bring along: 1. Hand tools 2. Rock bags 3. Water and a brush 4. Maybe a rake, soil on hills is very soft, Helpful notes to newcomers. Wear sturdy shoes. Soil is very sandy and soft. We found a few small shards of jasper--white on the 'outside', brown on the 'inside.' We also found quite a bit of grey and blue banded agate. Bring your camera, the scenery is stunning!" | From the wiki site: "Take hwy 40 off of I-70. Travel through Fraser, Granby, and through Hot Sulphur Springs. Go past Parshall, a matter of a mile or two, and look for Grand County Road 2, turn north. The guide book states to go 3.6 miles. At 3.4 miles, there is a gravel road that about 50 feet up suddenly has a foot deep water runoff rut. You can either go back and park on the road, or straddle the rut to the top." |
