This is a commercial highway exit area with many cuts into the hills that you can clearly see passing on the highway. We stopped by because of a tip from mindat.org. We only had 20 minutes to cover a small section, but the mineral list was supposed to be calcite and millerite. We found some clear calcite crystals, and some weathered vugs. Surely St. Louis rockhounds have hit this spot many times. There were fossils also, and I think the weird etchy layer might have been the millerite. There is also some quartz (probably the drusy variety).Take the highway 141 exit on I-44 and go south to Meramec Road. Take a right and you will have much access to the road cut from there.
