Agates can be found in the washes and gullies near this area, but the prized find is the fire agate, which has bright firey flashes of color which can make for good cutting and polishing for jewelry.
From the Rockhounds Guide to New Mexico by Melinda Crow and W. R. C. Shedenhelm (page 131, Site 67), "Virden is located on New Mexico highway 92, 2.9 miles east of the Arizona border. From Virden travel west about 1 mile to a dirt road on the right.  Search all washes and gullies for the agate."
