Ruby jack sphalerite and some druzy/drusy quartz as well as galena can be found in the chat (chert) piles near the new 71 interchange west of Carterville in the tailing piles near the railroad tracks.  This could be a temporary location for this website because last time I was there I saw them covering up the side south of the tracks with dirt.  I don't know what kind of work they are doing, but I hope they leave some piles.  Keep in mind these piles are old and getting quality display specimens is rare, and even finding specimen-grade rocks is hard.  So don't be too disappointed if it is hard to find anything good.

If you use hammers to crack rocks, especially chert, wearing protective glasses, gloves, and keeping others far away is a must!

Take the exit from highway to Carterville, go south, and take the second right at 5th street and go through town and the road will take you west out of town.  Park just before the railroad track.
