Good gem-quality carnelian (orange to red chalcedony agate) has been found along the north side of hwy 140 at the turn off to the Virgin Valley opal mines.  Alluvial float material can be picked up over a large area, and seams of carnelian can be found in the rhyolite hillside north of the highway.
