Description: Hi there. I'm selling this amazing Yooperlite specimen. It is from the Upper Peninsula (U.P.), Michigan. Yooperlites are syenite rock, similar to granite, with lots of sodalite inclusions. If you look at this specimen under long wave UV light the sodalite fluoresces bright yellow-orange! They will fluoresce with just a typical LED UV flashlight that you can get an any hardware store for a few dollars but they look best with a higher quality, narrow band UV light. In the photos above the ones where the rock is illuminated pink I used a cheap LED UV flashlight. The photos where the rock is nearly black while the sodalite is fluorescing bright orange were taken using a high quality 365nm UV flashlight. The rock itself is a lovely smooth, rounded shape created by natural erosion from Lake Superior and Ice Age glaciers.
