About Me:
I'm the webmaster for this site.  I'm fairly amateur rockhound after being at it since 2007.  I liked rocks growing up and was inspired by my Mom's old neighbor in Joplin, Everett Ritchie.  I'm a member of the Northwest Arkansas Gem and Mineral Society.

My Rock Interests:
I am mainly interested in finding crystals in their raw form on matrix.  Basically this applies to anything I find attractive and in raw form.  However I'm easily enticed to find rocks of any value including fossils, micromount minerals, agates, tumble material, etc.

My Rockhounding Tips:
I think networking with others is the best tip, so joining a local rock club is usually a recommendation.  Doing your research online and with books is a good tip also.  Always be careful when rockhounding.  Bring the right tools.  Observe good etiquette and state laws.  Go with someone.

Rockhound Trips this Year:
I've made some trips to some Missouri and Arkansas locations so far this year, including Mt. Ida (AR), Branson (MO), Magnet Cove (AR), Fayetteville (AR).   I plan on also going to one of the fee-pay quartz mines this year like Arrowhead Mine or Coleman Mine.  Hopefully I will get a chance to do some prospecting for new locations.

I found some chalcedony close to horse mountain, was wondering what yours looked like, I can't see banding on mine, but it's translucent and had a totally jet black coating on outside

Scott,

I'd like to get permission to use one of your photographs on your website in a not-for-profit magazine.  Would this be possible?

Scot I know a number of folks searching for a home for rockhounds. Your site is great!! Is there are easy way to add a posting page where on going conversations could be carried out. Also, would it be hard to add a photo sharing page. I could help with cost and elbow grease. Maybe, we could talk about it. Got to go hounding today.
